Have you heard the buzz about MyStory role playing system around Ku'Lani Beach? I decided to explore what the fuss is all about, and try MyStory out for a week. Read on to discover how my adventure went. I'll also cover why it exists, why so many people love to play it, and what sorts of MyStory activities you can do to keep up your well-being stats.
Why was MyStory created?
Storii Darkheart, who has an interested in LSL Scripting, was inspired to create MyStory because he wasn't enjoying the roleplay system options that were available. He decided to create a new system that had the features that he and his friends were interested in. Storii shared that there is a very large amount of registered users, and he is very grateful to everyone who uses the system and supports MyStory.
What is MyStory?
MyStory is a role playing system within Second Life, that tracks various metrics related to your avatar's health and well-being. You will need to take care of yourself to thrive (and avoid illness and death.) This can be done by meeting your needs for food, hygiene, socialization, and the like, all of which are tracked on a wearable HUD. MyStory activities can include cooking, farming, creating art, and all sorts of things! If you've ever played the game The Sims, this will sound familiar to you.
Why do Ku'Lanians play MyStory?
I decided to ask around the beach to find out what the appeal of playing MyStory was.
- Aqualyne Kohime said: “I just feel like my avi lives more through it. It allows me a sense of realism I usually wouldn't get in SL...and I find that using it has caused me to explore more.”
- King Raven shared: “The levels are challenging and unlocking items to use for MyStory is very fun.”
- Snow said: “People I care about play Mystory. I enjoy playing because its something we do together.”
My MyStory Adventure
I embarked on playing
MyStory for a week, for this blog article. Serenella and I joined
the cult started our MyStory journeys at the same time. We
clicked the number 9 on the teleport board, to get to the MyStory
Market. We walked past the market to the buffet, which is loaded
with delicious foods, drinks and desserts, generously cooked and
baked by Morri for our enjoyment. Snow magically appeared on the
pier, and helped Serenella and I get started on our MyStory journey.
We picked up the system and HUD, both of which are free, by clicking
on the red MyStory sign. It's located at the center of the buffet.
(The buffet has long been a fun stop for me to pick up my favourite
food: cake!) Then we pulled up chairs, and unpacked to see what
on earth the MyStory sign had given us.
Food, Social, and Hygiene
Now it was time to get started in earnest. After adding the system and the HUD to our avatars, Serenella and tucked into some food and drink, by clicking items on the lovely buffet. After adding them to our avatars, we clicked the items, and clicked “use” on the pop-up. Now we were benefiting from the hydration and nutrition, as displayed in private messages in our local chat. Gradually, our stats adjusted for us, and our hunger was sated. The buffet is loaded with main courses and desserts lovingly cooked by Morri. While you can play MyStory at home and around the SL grid, everything one needs to play MyStory is also freely available at Ku'Lani! Here's Sparkles tucking into the buffet with us:
If you prefer to cook at home, you can farm your ingredients. You'll optimally need some land at home to farm, but there are workarounds for skyboxes too. Here's Morri's farm:
Another option for getting ingredients to cook is shopping at the Ku'Lani MyStory Market (9 on the teleport board.) Here's Aqualyne picking up some food to take home to her kitchen:
Oh gosh! Serenella and I noticed that our continence bar on the HUD was dropping, and it was time to find a washroom. Snow sent us over to Hippie Beach, where there is a washroom located in a shack there. We ran into Rune there.
Then our hygiene stats were dropping, so it was time for a shower! The MyStory enabled shower is located behind the pool gazebo. We had to wait our turn, because Lani was busy looking amazing in the MyStory enabled shower, keeping her stats up.
To keep our social bar on the HUD replenished, there were lots of options around the sim, but we chose to sit and chat at at the tables on the pier. Other options are enjoying companionship sitting and interacting at the Koffee Korner, or at the Tiki Bar, for example. There are many places to interact with MyStory enabled furniture all over Ku'Lani Beach, which makes playing MyStory a cinch!
Sex
I asked MyStory creator, Storii Darkheart, whether or not in the future there would be a version including sexual health, and he responded: “I don't have anything planned at the moment for anything related to sexual health, and since it is a system used by avatars of all ages, I most likely will not be implementing anything related to sexual practices.” Since that interview however, a system update came out and the RP system now includes “Activities.” You can define what “activities” you wish included, and guess what, the owner of the furniture decides what activities are named and used, so sex can easily be one of them!

Experience (XP) and Leveling Up
What was this mysterious XP bar on the HUD? It grew as I gained experience playing MyStory. Once the bar hit 100%, wow, I was upped a level, and given 5 MyStory dollars! Could we go shopping for clothes? Alas no, but the MyStory dollars can be used as credits at the MyStory Main Store. Each time you level up new types of MyStory activites become available to you. Farming, creating art, and different sorts of crafting are other MyStory activities one can explore as one levels up.

Drugs
As a young adult, of course I need to rebel and experiment. One evening I ran into a cute dealer on the beach, and she gave me some shrooms. I won't out her, we don't need security bouncing her! I took the shrooms and my avatar lifted off, floated and there were some very funky visual distortions. Another day, I had a few too many beers partying at the Tiki bar, and began staggering. MyStory indicated in local chat that I was feeling sick, and my health bar was dropping...so I had to stagger off to the washroom and take care of that. Another day, Rhae kindly gave me some weed that she grew to try. I gazed at a Ku'Lani sunset, whilst puffing away and forgetting my cares.

Summing up...
MyStory is an extra way to enjoy SL and all that Ku'Lani Beach has to offer. All in all, MyStory wasn't for me, and I wrapped up my one week experiment. But don't let that discourage you, give it a try for yourself! Ku'Lani Beach offers all that you need on site to keep your MyStory stats up. MyStory is a new way to spend time with your friends, and to experience a fresh sense of immersion in SL. Head to the pier by clicking 9 on the teleport board.
